The Penfold philosophy ensures each vintage of Grange exhibits its own character, evolving for decades as it ages and continues to pleasantly surprise with each new tasting. When Grange reached its 50th anniversary, it was considered appropriate to review all vintages. The historical tasting was recorded in the official Hansard of Parliament Vintage 1965 was assembled from a collation of parcels grown to Kalimna Vineyard and Barossa Valley, Magill Estate, Morphett and McLaren Vales. Five percent of Cabernet Sauvignon was included for structure and complexity. The finished Grange was treated to eighteen months maturation in a selection of exclusively new American oak hogsheads.
