Vintage 1974 was a very difficult growing season with rainfall more than double the average. Picking time was also very wet, with conditions made worse by an outbreak of downy mildew just before harvest. Tight fruit selection measures were applied to achieve reasonably good edition of Grange with sound structure and concentration of fruit on the palate, given the year. Seven percent Cabernet Sauvignon was included, the finished Grange was matured eighteen months in new American oak hogsheads. Alcohol 12.1%
