Verdelho first came to prominence in the early days of West Australian viticulture when the patriarch of Swan Valley winemakers, Jack Mann, saw the potential of the variety for making fresh, lively table wines which are immediately approachable yet age gracefully. The development of Margaret River saw Verdelho planted to cooler environs, encouraging the grape to develop fully its unique character. Ashbrook's Old Block was established 1976 to cuttings sourced from the oldest vineyard in Swan Valley. A second parcel was planted 1987 and became known as Verdelho over the creek. It yields outstanding fruit, vinified completely unoaked, to express the exquisite varietal charm.
