Margaret River can boast of a rare confluence of topography and terroir which form a mesoclime very like Bordeaux, along with a rare consistency of weather patterns each year, to deliver the quality of wine which Bordeaux can offer only in the finest vintages. Close study and a meticulous grafting of vines have contributed to the exceptional suitability of the Leeuwin property for Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Subject to the Margaret River's most isolated and pristine natural environment, the influence of Leeuwin's viticultural practice is intentionally minimal. Vineyards are kept balanced to the annual environmental conditions. With the emphasis on quality rather than quantity, yields at Leeuwin are kept low. To alleviate the problem of strong winds damaging setting buds, Leeuwin maintains an extensive program of tree planting.
