Penfold's mastery at formulating superlative Shiraz and Cabernet accords is due in great part to the excellence of their vineyards, achieved through the assemblage of components into a wine which delivers true stylishness in the enduring and timeless Penfolds way. Great attention is paid to the ripeness of fruit that goes into Bin 8, making the wine fuller in style and sounder in structure. Pointedly named for the distinction of its maturation in a selection of pre loved oak barrels which have held vintages of Bin 28, Bin 128 and Bin 389.

TASTING NOTES

Crimson red. White pepper notes, blackberry leaf and punnets of fresh raspberry, carpaccio, brine and red fruit liquorice. A steely, graphite core, rhubarb succulence, paprika, pomegranate and berry coulis, French and American oak in support, binding the palate and paving the way for compliant, powdery tannins.

Penfolds was founded by a young English doctor who migrated to one of his country's most distant colonies a century and a half ago

Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold was born in 1811, the youngest of 11 children. He studied medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, graduating in 1838. Like many doctors before and since, Dr Penfold had a firm belief in the medicinal value of wine. Before he left Britain he had obtained vine cuttings from the south of France and these were planted around the site of the modest stone cottage he built with his wife, Mary, at Magill on the outskirts of Adelaide in 1845.
