Excellent Langtons Classification. Named for the contribution of Johann Gramp's grandson to the Orlando Wine Company, St Hugo is the very best varietal Cabernet Sauvignon of vintage. Hugo is vintaged entirely from fruit grown to the famed cigar shape of Coonawarra Terra rossa, one of the world's great Cabernet appellations. The team regularly visit the vineyards monitoring development of grapes. Selection is the key to delivering the finest possible St Hugo, only the standout parcels of Coonawarra Cabernet are earmarked for inclusion.
Each vineyard parcel is individually harvested and vinified. All grapes are de-stemmed and crushed into static fermenters. Extraction of colour, flavour and tannin are achieved by pumpovers regularly allowing the fermenting juices to percolate through the skins. Ferments are held on skins to develop power without compromising elegance or freshness. Batches are drained, pressed and returned. Components spend eighteen to twenty four months maturing in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads. Trials of individual barrels are undertaken to ensure the finished St Hugo shows intense varietal flavour, complexity and firm, yet silky tannins.
TASTING NOTES
Deep dark red with an intense crimson purple hue. Lifted and intense on the nose, vibrant cassis and black fruits layered over well integrated oak derived notes of cedar, cinnamon and roasted hazelnut. Richly concentrated flavours combine with stylish and sympathetic oak, supported by long, silky, fine grained tannins and a balance of acidity, culminating in a long, lingering and memorable savoury finish.
 St Hugo
St Hugo honours the visionary leader; Hugo Gramp, who successfully built Gramp & Sons winery into an industry pillar inspiring progress across future generations of the Gramp family
A true visionary and a man of great intellect, Hugo Gramp was a linguist, businessman and expert winemaker who felt a great sense of connection with Australian terroir, which he proved to the world, could create internationally acclaimed, award winning fine wines. The modern iteration of St Hugo was launched with the 1980 vintage to honour Hugo Gramp, the grandson of Johann Gramp who planted his first vines in the Barossa Valley in 1847. Hugo Gramp succeeded his father at the head of the Gramp & Sons family business, at the age of 25. Hugo's leadership and passion for wine set the company on a path of extraordinary growth. St Hugo»
