Red Knot has been crafted to give wine lovers what they want, a delicious quaff at any time of day or night. Fashioned from choice Shiraz grown to the award winning Davey Family Vineyard, with select parcels from good friends and neighbouring growers around McLaren Vale. Shingleback's vines are closely managed to ripen grapes fully, developing intense fruit flavours for a wine of splendid balance between natural acidity and fine fruit, supple tannins and fragrant oak. Match Red Knot with lambf, gourmet snags or an eggplant and spinach lasagna.
McLaren Vale is renowned as a premium Shiraz growing region. The proximity to St Vincent Gulf, so named after the patron saint of winemakers, enhances quality of fruit through warmer spring/ autumn conditions and cooler, more temperate summers. A long held dream was realised when the Shingleback vineyard was established on land acquired in 1959. From a slow start with a range of just one wine, Shiraz of course, the portfolio has grown into a range that includes the highly accessible Red Knot. Following the crush, inoculation and fermentation, parcels are assembled into a medium to full bodied and aged under a selection of fine oaks.
TASTING NOTES
Deep magenta red. A compote of fragrant ripe strawberries, fragrant aromas of blackberry and black forest cake with hints of citrus blossom and subtle cashew oak fill the glass, hints of creme brulee and cashew from fine grained oak. The textured, dark berry fruit palate is alive with black pepper and licorice nuances. Chewy tannins coat the tongue and define the long, lingering finish. A medium to full bodied wine, offering a finesse and structure well beyond its price point.
