Max Schubert embarked upon his Grange project with a view to establishing a world class Cabernet wine, which would improve every year in bottle for two decades. After several trial vintages, he ultimately called upon harvests of Shiraz from one of Australia's oldest vineyards. The Magill Estate property remains to this day as the source of fruit for the backbone of intensely concentrated grapes which marks Grange as the new world's most extraordinary Shiraz wine. Mostly Shiraz, with 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, from outstanding vineyards in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, Valley Clare and Magill, the finished Grange is aged eighteen months in a selection of completely new American oak hogsheads.
