The infectious enthusiasm of the late great Jack Mann, encouraged a small number of farmers in the Great Southern to try their hand at viticulture. The three Goundrey vineyards were amongst the first to be planted at Mount Barker, they remain meticulously managed and cared for by a dedicated team who work closely to ensure vintages of the finest fruit. The conspicuous freshness of Homestead Chardonnay is defined as much by the quality of harvest, as it is by a natural, minimalist winemaking approach, completely unwooded and unoaked.
Harvests are reductively handled to retain freshness and vibrancy while minimising unwanted phenolics. Grapes are pressed and the juices are treated to a spell of cold settling followed by vinification at cooler temperatures. Upon completion, batches remain on sedimentery lees for a term of age to contribute palate weight and enhance texture. A minimal fining and handling into bottle, completely unoaked for a vibrant, fruit forward style.
TASTING NOTES
Vibrant pale straw, lime hues. Lifted aromas of fresh cut stone fruits, honey dews and white peach, citrus blossom and subtle melon notes. The palate delivers primary fruit flavours of melons and peach, balanced by lively acids, before a clean lingering finish on a measure of generosity and finesse. Superb with white mushroom pasta recipes or grilled fishes.
