Nestled in the heart of Coonawarra is the famous three gabled, heritage listed Wynns winery building. Originally constructed by Coonawarra pioneer and patriarch John Riddoch, the three gables silhouette is one of Australia's most recognizable labels, representing a distinctive marque of the finest quality Coonawarra wines. A limited release crafted from a selection of small, choice parcels of fruit, dominated by Cabernet with a slightly smaller component of Shiraz,
The Gables is a special edition, fashioned for earlier drinking alongside a diverse range of cuisines.
Coonawarra's most significant feature is the influence of her idyllic Terra rossa, a rich red topsoil which lies over soft porous limestone with a constant water table beneath. As vines struggle and stress in extending their roots through layers of terra rossa and limestone to the water below, growth is limited to producing low yields of small but intensely flavoured grapes. Wynns are endowed with a heritage which dates back to the earliest plantings, their growers and winemaking team can exploit generations of viticulture, to isolate the most splendid parcels for inclusion into The Gable. The finished wine is matured fourteen months in a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels. Alcohol 14.0%
TASTING NOTESBright and vibrant with vivid purple hue. Attractive red mulberries, blackberry fruits and spice on the bouquet with subtle hints of blackcurrant and molasses wrapped in well integrated French oak. A full middle palate dominated by plush red fruit flavours. Succulent mulberry and blood plum characters from the Shiraz marry well with darker notes of leather and rhubarb from the Cabernet to complete a superbly balanced complex wine. Enjoy immediately upon release or cellar over the short term for three to five years.
