Founded in 1776, Champagne Louis Roederer remain one of the few family owned Champagne houses. For two centuries, six succeeding generations have been inspired by the same concern for quality. Jean-Claude Rouzaud, grandson of Madame Camille Olry-Roederer is referred to as the
Sage of Champagne. Louis Roederer's fundamental advantage lies in its superb 190-hectare vineyard, which rates 97.5% on the official classification scale, and covers the Pinot Noir crus of Montagne de Reims and Valley de la Marne, with Chardonnay from the Cotes des Blanc.
The upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century, particular the First World War which destroyed more than half of the estate, led Leon Olry Roederer to reconstruct his entire vineyard. Carte Blanche incorporates the three noble Champagne varietals from more than forty different plots. The wine is an assemblage of six vintages, a component matured in oak casks with weekly batonnage and portion from the Louis Roederer Reserve, wines from great vintages which have been matured in oak casks over several years. The Carte Blanche remains on lees for three years under the Louis Roederer cellars, rested for six months after disgorgement and dosage of 45 gms per litre prior to release.
