Magpie is a joint venture between English wine merchant Noel Young and Barossa winemaker Rolf Binder. Noel, has a passion for the Rhone varietals which matches Rolf's very own, he prefers his Australian reds with more new oak in them, so Rolf Binder complies. The Schnell is a blend of Shiraz and Grenache from a canon of good to very good Barossa sites. Rolf gets a tonne of grapes from here and a tonne of fruit from there, many are old school mates, long time suppliers and more recent friends, to create a Barossa wine that's designed for early drinking. A combination of new and old world vinification techniques is followed by a course of maturation in a selection of French and American oak barrels.
