Founded by the Redman family in 1954, Rouge Homme has established a tradition over five decades, of providing excellent quality Coonawarra wines displaying richness and warmth, while maintaining the medium to full body of the cellar style. A splendid Aussie claret style, very approachable on release, Redman evoloves handsomely. A Shiraz Cabernet that shows an abundance of fruit and a fine tannin structure, indicative of the finest Coonawarra. An immensely satisfying red wine of tradition and stature, flavoursome and long.
Right at the heart of Coonawarra are the Rouge Homme Vineyards, established in 1908 when the Redman family purchased part of John Riddoch's Penola Fruit Colony. Regular seasons of cold, wet winters and mild to warm, dry summers encourage a slow ripening of grapes, allowing excellent development of sugar levels and flavour, with the retention of good acidity. To accomodate the cold winters and springs, the vines at Rouge Homme are trained over high trellises, with overhead mist sprinklers to protect them from frosts during spring. Rouge Homme is treated to an extended maturation in a selection of seasoned and new, French and American oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Intense red colour with dark crimson hues at the rim. Rich, ripe full berry characters showing spicey fruit and velvety, brown tannins. Light oaken characters of cinammon and clove embellish the fruit. A wine of soild structure and persistent flavour, attractive fruit sweetness on the mid palate, balanced by integrated tannins and enhanced by oak maturation.

About the Rouge Homme Winery
Right at the heart of Coonawarra are the Rouge Homme Vineyards, established in 1908 when the Redman family purchased part of John Riddoch's Penola Fruit Colony
For half a century, the Rouge Homme winemakers supplied wine to other companies and merchants. With the inaugural release of the 1954 Cabernet Sauvignon, Rouge Homme as a winery itself began to attract some of the fame. Rouge Homme, French for Red Man, signified the similarity of the wines to the red wines of Bordeaux. The Rouge Homme Richardson's label was introduced with the 1992 vintage and named in honour of Henry Richardson. In 1892 Henry Richardson, one of the earliest Coonawarra pioneers, purchased land from the region's founder John Riddoch, and established a vineyard winery on the property. Rouge Homme»
