Mt Burrumboot was going to be a legend from the very outset, the inaugural vintage of this magic Shiraz claimed Gold in San Francisco. An awesome example of Heathcote, the earliest editions all showed fantastic aromas, intense fruit, and true finesse. The best Shiraz Burrumboot have made to date, a complex, robust wine with mulberry/ blackberry fighting on the palate, leather and spice hovering around the nose, framed by brilliantly integrated, lithe vanillan oak and supported by long and fine, ripe and elegant tannins.
The Mount Burrumboot philosophy is simple. As farmers, the winemakers allow themselves to be guided by nature, to intervene as little as possible, and only when necessary. Grapes grown to low yielding vines are carefully handcrafted using traditional methods, the finished wines reflect the terroir of Heathcote and are fashioned to allow the distinctive character of the exclusively estate grown fruit to fully express itself. Vinified with long cool ferments to create a fully endowed Shiraz with ripe tannins and complex aromas. Treated to eleven months maturation in a combination of French oak barriques, most notably Sirugue to develop the fineness of tannin. Approx 14.0%
TASTING NOTES
The colour is intense Heathcote black. Powerful fruit, huge black cherry and ripe sweet plum up front, followed by nutmeg and spice, hints of licorice, leather and cassis. Bites of bramble fruit on the palate, supported by chocolatey tannins, fine and well structured. An elegant, complex, full bodied wine, with a warm, persistant finish, ideal for partnering to a wine braised Osso Bucco.

More About Mount Burrumboot Wines
Mount Burrumboot Estate was born when the wine bug bit Andrew and Cathy Branson
In 1999 they planted vines on the Home Block of the Branson family farm 'Donore', located on the slopes of Mount Burrumboot, on the Mount Camel Range above Colbinabbin. Originally the vineyard was just another diversification of an already diverse farming enterprise of cereals, prime lambs and irrigated clover hay. The first wine was made in 2001 by contract, and 2002 saw the first vintage wine made by Cathy in the machinery shed, surrounded by headers and tractors. The original primitive winemaking operation was eventually refurbished into a new 50 tonne winery in August 2002. Mount Burrumboot»
