Many of Spain's most prestigious wines originate from a northern plateau, along the course of Ribera del Duero, within the premiere viticultural precincts of Castile and Leon. The ancient Romans, visting Goths and Benedictine monks all made wine here. Maite Geijo is a restaurateur with a passion for gastronomy, she acquired the established Cepas y Bodegas to produce a house wine. A Vino de la Tierra in satisfying local country style, brimming with the iridescent fruit of Tempranillo and generous palate weight of Cabernet.
Nourished by the flows of River Duero, the vineyards of Villacampa Roble are situated within the provinces of Valladolid and Zamora, at the western districts of Castilla y Leon. Much of the viticulture here is for local consumption, honest table reds for enthusiasts who know their wine and enjoy matching it with good country faire. Villacampa make a mostly Tempranillo wine with a measure of Cabernet Sauvignon, hand picked off vines up to thirty five years of age, grown to well drained limestone soils. Fruit is treated to a combination of modern and old world vinification techniques, before filling to a selection of seasoned French oak casks for six months maturation.
TASTING NOTES
Deep cherry red colour with hues of Tempranillo blue. Bright fresh currant and strawberry nose, sage, spices and red fruit notes over the darker berry characters of Cabernet. More strawberry and currants on the succulent palate, a juicy, mouth watering wine of opulent fruit flavours and background acidity, supported by fine, drying tannins.
