The estate of Argiano is located in the county of Montalcino, a small village which dates back to the middle ages, nestled on top of a hill at 500 meters above sea level. The poet Alfonso Gatto defined Montalcino as
a village of confidence and at the same time a window to the apocalypses.
Argiano's Solengo vineyards enjoy a synergy of mesoclime and rich mineral/ alluvial soils which stimulate vines to yield reduced harvests of fruit characterised by a high concentration of anthocyanins and noble tannins in the skins. Altitudes of 300 metres serve to extend the vegetative cycle and ripening period, achieving a quality of fruit that's essential for a super Tuscan. Grapes are all picked by hand into small baskets. Varietals are separately handled, macerated for a fortnight or more, fermented and treated to malolactic before transfer to a selection of completely new French oak barriques for up to seventeen months maturation, followed by racking and bottling, unfiltered and unfined.
TASTING NOTESDeep black purple colour. Bouquet of ripe fruits, blackberry and currants infused with toasty oak. Soft on the palate with great concentration of lush fruit, nicely in balance over the fine, smooth tannins.
