Vintage 1994 is fashioned to the classic style, with firm but subtle tannins, plenty of grip and the expressive cistus nose so closely associated with Warre. The 1994 Ports show every indication of being extremely long lived.
After a number of exceptionally dry years, the very wet winter came as a great relief and replaced valuable ground water reserves. Farmers became anxious to start picking, remembering the disastrous 1993 vintage which was ruined by September rain. At Quinta da Cavadinha and other top Warres vineyards in the Rio Torto valley, picking was held off until the weather cleared again with the grapes in better condition than had been seem for many years. The vintage took place with warm dry days and cool nights. The musts showed excellent colour and beautiful floral aromas.
TASTING NOTESExcellent deep colour. Very scented with a luscious and concentrated black berry fruit nose, combined with seductive floral hints. Rich and supple fruit flavours on the palate and a backbone of firm tannins. A wealth of peppery, liquorice scented and flavoured raspberry, blackcurrant fruit. Finishes wtih superb richness and impressive length.
