Elegance and finesse are the signature of Yarra Burn, their distinguished releases are the reward of consistently superior viticulture and uncompromising skill in the vinification. The essence of these qualities is captured in this classic wine, stylistically similar to the famous siblings of France's Rhône Valley. A five percent dash of the sweetly aromatic Viognier, softens and adds figure to the components of mighty Heathcote and Coldstream Shiraz. A gently perfumed wine exhibiting characters of apricot, violet and strawberry, it drinks beautifully upon release.
Yarra Burn was established on a small vineyard at Yarra Junction in 1975, when the Yarra Valley was a fledgling viticultural region of approximately thirty hectares. Four decades later, Yarra Burn are proud of an enduring reputation for producing some of Australia's finest and most memorable wines. The source vineyards are meticulously pruned and managed to ensure the grapes ripen slowly and yield the healthiest harvests. The backbone of Shiraz is sourced off the finest sites in Victoria, a component of Viognier adds aromatic lift, bright fruit and creaminess to the palate. After completion of ferments, Yarra Burn is sent for an extended term of age in a selection of the finely coopered French oak barriques.
TASTING NOTES
Bright scarlet colour. Perfumes of raspberry and rose, violets and apricot. A light to medium bodied red with plenty of plummy fruit flavours, complexed by spiced oak toasteyness. The palate is lined by fine velvet textures, delivered in full along a support of judicious oak and ripe, juicy tannins. Match with beef rib or lamb, mushroom recipes and all fine cuisine.

About Yarra Burn Wines
In August 1975 David and Christine Fyffe purchased a property near Yarra Junction that has softly undulating good soil and fabulous views to Mt Donna Buang
In the spring that followed they erected makeshift houses to stay in while they planted vines on their days off from running Mayerling Cellars. Initial plantings were 2 acres each of pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and half an acre of gewrztraminer, which was fairly quickly replanted with merlot when it lost popularity. The original name Settlement Vineyards was already registered so they settled on Yarra Burn, as the property is located half way between the two small townships of Yarra Junction and Wesburn. Part time study in viticulture and oenology at Roseworthy and Charles Sturt and help from consultants contributed to Yarra Burn's success. In late 1977 the Fyffes sold their bottleshop to build a house and an estate winery at Yarra Burn. They were encouraged and assisted by their friends at Jean Jacques by the Sea in establishing an onsite restaurant. Yarra Burn»
