It's all about those carefree summer days and relaxing starlit nights that are so perfect for enjoying vibrant and refreshing wines. Originating from the Italian region of Liguria, the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia, Vermentino is a wine that's renowned for its vibrancy and refreshing, tropical character. As an emerging varietal in Australia, Vermentino is a grape which seems particularly well suited to planting in warmer climes. Vermentino can be quite fruity with luscious flavours and cleansing qualities.
The Yalumba philosophy quietly encourages innovation, experimentation and a visionary outlook in the quest to make great wine. Yalumba operate a vineyard nursery for the express purpose of developing techniques for the optimal husbanding of rare and unique varieties and clones. Vermentino is predominantly sourced from vineyards which have been trained specifically for this style of wine. Grapes are picked throughout the cool of night to maximise freshness before being crushed and de-stemmed for a period of skin contact. Parcels are pressed, the juices cold settled and fermented cold to retain freshness. Two months of post ferment lees mixing has added texture and improved middle palate weight.
TASTING NOTES
Pale greenish straw hue. Vermentino is strikingly aromatic, cleansing and crisp, orange blossom and white peach notes seasoned by coriander and pepper spice. The palate reveals flavours of crunchy, tangy stonefruit, pears and nectarine, closely followed by fresh grapefruit and crunchy nashi. A food friendly wine, best served chilled alongside seafood recipes with fresh fruits, such as calamari over honey dew melon.

More About Yalumba Wines
Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned and operated winery, has a wealth of history and tradition
Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch Yalumba, aboriginal for 'all the land around'. Yalumba»
