Trophys for Best Bottle Fermented Canberra, Best Sparkling Adelaide, Best Sparkling Murrumbateman Wine Show and 8 Gold Medals! An exclusively Tumbarumba wine crafted from hand picked grapes, mostly Pinot Noir 62% with a third of Chardonnay and a good component of Pinot Meunier. Hardys have taken their sparkling wines very seriously, mobilizing teams of specialist artisans who set the highest standards, traversing the nation to develop the most superior vineyards, whilst honing their skills to stellar heights.
For over 150 years, Hardys has crafted some of Australia's best known and most popular labels. Sir James is one of the most decorated and recognized sparkling wines in the country. From fruit grown to mature vines planted in red sand over clay soils in the salubrious cold climate region of Tumbarumba. Grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed to ensure elegance of structure. Primary vinification is carried out in tank followed by a secondary fermentation in bottle. Individual batches were fermented on light grape solids and underwent malolactic in primary ferment lees before the base wines were assembled and treated to an extended bottle tirage of seven years. Alcohol 13.0%
TASTING NOTES
Deep straw with a bright gold hue. Complex fragrances, notes of buttered toast, mushroom, brioche and walnut. Subtle flavours of honey and mushroom are complemented by the gentle backbone of acid and tannin supporting a most flavoursome wine. A distinguished effervescent wine, opulent and developed, expressing the awesome complexity of the Tumbarumba terroir.

About Hardys Wines
Thomas Hardy left Devon in 1850 at the age of 20 and migrated to the new colony of South Australia
He established a winery on the banks of Adelaide's River Torrens in 1853. His Bankside winery was the start of an outstanding family wine business that grew to become one of the world's great wine companies. Thomas Hardy was a self-made man, a pioneer of immense character. With a mixture of energy, determination, shrewd judgment, innovation and a touch of daring, he pursued the highest standards in winemaking. At Bankside, and later at his McLaren Vale property Tintara, he focused on quality and craftsmanship. Tintara was to become the centre of Hardy's enterprise and by the late 1800s was one of the best-equipped and managed wineries in Australia. This success was substantially due to Hardy's initiatives in planting higher quality, lower yielding varieties rather than the coarser, heavier-yielding types more common at the time. His willingness to experiment with and to use novel equipment, much of which he designed and built himself, also contributed to this success. Hardys»
