A love of wine and art inspires Peter Lehmann to distinguish his labels with a depicture of the queen of clubs, symbolic of the brave gamble Lehmann took to build his winery in 1979. It is significant that the majority of vineyards from which Peter Lehmann sources fruit are classified as mature, ranging in ages from twenty to over a hundred years. Many are ungrafted and dry grown. Harvests of Merlot and a slightly larger component of Cabernet Sauvignon, grown to fine Barossa vineyards, are fermented on skins for several days until dry. After pressing, clarification and assemblage, the wine is matured in a selection of French and American oak hogsheads for twelve months prior to bottling.
