Endowed with deep soils and richly fertile chocolate loams, the Barossa is home to some of the world's finest Shiraz growing terrain. The opportunity to craft a single wine of individuality and personality from a patchwork of soils, aspects, microclimates and cultures was simply too good for the Yalumba team to pass up. Harvested off vines up to forty years of age, a construct of flavour and concentration. Through rigorous site selection, Patchwork unearths power, elegance, spice and structure, all the elements of an outstanding Barossa Shiraz.
Patchwork is fashioned from Shiraz grown to several high quality, yet vastly different Barossa vineyards, all of which contribute an important piece to the complete wine. A mix of smaller eight tonnes and medium size twenty five tonnes static fermenters are employed over a cycle of eight to twelve days. The wild indigenous yeasts present on grape skins initiate ferments, cultured winery yeasts are added to complete the process. The majority of components are run to barrel, select parcels remain on skins post ferment for one or two weeks. The finished wine is matured fourteen months in a selection of new and seasoned French and American hogsheads, octaves and barriques.
TASTING NOTES
Dense, dark purple red colour. The aroma exhibits a mix of fresh bright berry compote fruits, dark plums and violets intermingled with savoury complexity. A wine of richness and generosity, density and concentration, dark jube fruit flavours fill the palate, balanced by fine acidity and round, earthy tannins. A full bodied Barossa Shiraz exhibiting excellent depth of colour, richness and complexity, silky fruit is the key, laden with red and dark berry flavours, the palate finishes with long and fine.

More About Yalumba Winery
Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned and operated winery, has a wealth of history and tradition
Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch Yalumba, aboriginal for 'all the land around'. Yalumba»
