The award winning team at Wolf Blass have identified a small number of sites in the Barossa, Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills, as Platinum select vineyards, among the country's very finest, reliably delivering the most superlative Shiraz grapes, year in and year out. These outstanding parcels provide the winemakers with an opportunity to strive for perfection, to craft a wine that epitomises vintage, varietal and vineyard. Made in extremely limited quantities from low yielding vines, Platinum Label is quite literally, the pick of the crop.
Shiraz is collated from the most distinguished vineyards, some off fifty year old dry grown Eden Valley vines, the backbone from low yielding sites on the Barossa Valley floor. Parcels are crushed, de-stemmed and separately vinified in small batch open fermenters. A combination of plunging and pumpover is employed to maximise extraction of colour and tannin while retaining concentration and fruit. Some parcels are pressed off skins after seven days to develop a full, rich, middle palate while others remain on skins for up to fourteen days, enhancing tannin structure and length of flavour. After pressing, the wines are transferred into new and prior use French oak barrels for up to two years maturation.
TASTING NOTES
Intense purple red in colour. Fully aromatic with complex rich black cherry fruit, lots of blackberry and ruby berries, heightened profiles of mixed peppers, hints of licorice and spicy oak on the bouquet foretell a wine with great depth, length, structure and balance. On the full bodied palate are more expressions of cherries, loganberry and spice and deep savoury oak. The fruit is thick, the tannins express chocolate and liquorice. The wine culminates in a long, powerful finish, dry with lingering flavours of bramble, currant and char.

About the Wolf Blass Winery
The Wolf Blass winery is located at the epicentre of the Australian wine industry, the Barossa Valley and has produced some of Australia's finest wines since 1966
Wolf Blass Wines International was born in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley. John Glaetzer joined the company and from 1974-1976 Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies, the Black Label generated substantial publicity and hype. From this time onwards growth was impressive with Wolf Blass Yellow Label and Riesling becoming Australia's top selling red and white wine. Wolf Blass»
