William Salter was one of the first to purchase land in the Barossa. He built a stone house for his family naming it Mamre Brook, after Abrahams spiritual home in the book of Genesis. Mamre Brook House still stands today as the spiritual home of Saltram. Three generations of Salters continued to make wine until 1937. Today it is the home of Pepperjack and the domain of Jimmy Watson winemaker Nigel Dolan. Mamre Brook is an exciting Shiraz wine showing dense colour, excellent varietal character, finesse and soft, ripe tannins.
Shiraz grapes from low yielding, minimally irrigated vineyards throughout the Barossa and Eden Valleys. These sites provide fruit with a true expression of regionality and good varietal characters. Conditions are ideal for grapes to reach their optimum ripeness, flavour, structure and depth. After crushing and de-stemming, the individual fruit parcels are fermented on skins in traditional style open fermenters for up to ten days. This develops intense colour and extracts the soft tannins from the skins. The wine is then pressed into a combination of new and prior use American and French oak barrels for eighteen months prior to blending and bottling.
TASTING NOTES
Dark red with soft purple hues. Richly concentrated aromas of liquorice, blackberry and spicy clove. Dark berry fruit and smoky vanilla oak characters supported by silky firm tannins and the great depth of the palate. This exceptionally generous wine finishes with an impressive length of flavour. The fruit and oak are in exemplary balance, with outstanding length of flavour and weight of fruit on the palate. Enjoy with char grilled beef, herbs and potato.

About Saltram Wines
In 1844 a recently arrived immigrant from England named William Salter was one of the first people to purchase land in the newly opened land survey known as the Barossa Valley
He built a stone house for his family naming it Mamre Brook, after Abrahams spiritual home in the book of Genesis. Mamre Brook House still stands today as the spiritual home of Saltram. William Salter and Sons first planted grapes here in 1859, and in 1862 produced 8000 litres of a wine appropriately named No.1 Shiraz. In the history of Saltram there have only been eight senior winemakers, two families dominate the list, Salter and Dolan. Three generations of Salters made wine until 1937, and the Dolan's have played a part at Saltram from the 1950s through until today. Saltram»
