Grey Label was the first edition ever released under the Wolf Blass label, it remains to this day, a wine of great quality and consistency, character and charm. The enduring Aussie cépage of Cabernet and Shiraz, all harvested off choice vineyards, some of which have been serving Wolf Blass for decades. The vineyards of Langhorne Creek are nourished by a natural irrigation which deposits silts and sediments perenially, concentrating the eucalyptus oils present in the soils, contributing intense colour and distinctive regional, fragrant minty allure.
Select blocks of Cabernet and Shiraz are harvested at optimal maturity and ripeness, individual parcels are crushed into small open top fermenters. A course of plunging and gentle pumpovers optimise the extractions, allowing for richness and depth of fruit while retaining plush tannins. Some parcels are transferred to barrel for completion of ferments, integrating oak characters and contributing to middle palate texture and complexity. Other parcels remain on skins until dry to extend tannin length. Components are treated to eighteen months in a selection of completely new French and American oak barrels, followed by a determination of the final assemblage in February, two years after harvest. Alcohol 14.5%
TASTING NOTES
Deep crimson, purple hues. Fragrant nose of blackberries and cherry fruit, heightened by eucalypt and mint, supported by subtle warm spice and cedary oak. Medium to full bodied palate, layers of bramble berry, eucalypt notes and subtle oak. The wine finishes on a length of finely textured, elegant tannins, an exquisite red wine endowed with great finesse, dominated by a compelling persistence of regional fruit character.

More About Wolf Blass Wines
The Wolf Blass winery is located at the epicentre of the Australian wine industry, the Barossa Valley and has produced some of Australia's finest wines since 1966
Wolf Blass Wines International was born in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley. John Glaetzer joined the company and from 1974-1976 Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies, the Black Label generated substantial publicity and hype. From this time onwards growth was impressive with Wolf Blass Yellow Label and Riesling becoming Australia's top selling red and white wine. Wolf Blass»
