This regional Shiraz is sourced from unique viticultural meso-climates that were formed from the gradual weathering of the Grampians over millions of years. These quality vineyards were identified by the winemakers on the basis of good Shiraz fruit, the fermented juice was aged in separate batches. From these batches wines that expressed high quality, regional fruit characters were selected to create a Shiraz that displays purity of fruit, elegance and great aging capacity, classic characteristics of the Grampians region.
Named after the Silverband waterfalls in the Grampians, and crafted to display the unique terroir. A cool and wet spring and summer meant disease control and canopy management were to be challenging. February presented extremes of weather, hot and dry one day, cold and wet the next. By autumn, the weather had settled providing perfect ripening conditions. While the relatively cool summer had retarded fruit maturity and flavour development, natural acid levels remained promisingly high. This wine was matured for 21 months in a combination of new and prior use French oak barriques. Alcohol 14% Winemaker Emma Wood.
TASTING NOTES
Colour is crimson with vibrant purple hues. The perfumed nose shows notes of dark cherry, berry fruits with aromas of mocha and spice. Intense regional fruit characters combine with refined, suede-like tannins that extend across the palate. Suitably medium-bodied that's rich and ripe, plummy with dominant Shiraz characters, a seductive spiceyness and underlying notes of blackberries, an abundance of velvety sweet complexities, fine tannins and subdued wood characters This is a stylish wine which will reward careful cellaring with further bottle age complexity sure to develop over time. Ideal with red meats, duck or game.
