Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz 2003 has been judged as the World's Greatest Shiraz, in Winestates inaugural World's Greatest Shiraz Challenge. Winestate, with the help of ten prominent judges, evaluated over 400 Shiraz and Shiraz-dominant blends in blind tastings to decide the best wines in various price categories, choosing an ultimate grand champion, the World's Greatest Shiraz. Caroline Dunn, Wolf Blass Senior Winemaker, said the wine shines as a result of careful fruit selection, given the challenging 2003 vintage.
The 2003 vintage was warm and dry to begin, becoming milder later in the season. An early vintage, the grapes were dense in colour, excellent varietal character and soft tannins. Eden Valley parcels provided elegance and beautifully lifted aromas while the Barossa parcels provided palate richness and intensity of fruit. The parcels were harvested and fermented separately in small batch open fermenters, seven to fourteen days, components were fermented on skins for seven days before completing fermentation in oak, the remainder stayed on skins to increase palate length and to refine the tannins. Maturation in a combination of new and prior use French oak of varying toast levels, twenty four months. Alcohol 14.5%
TASTING NOTES
Immediately recognizeable as a very special wine, deep purple in colour with lifted, fragrant aromas of fresh berries and dark chocolate on the nose. The wine offers a seamless, concentrated palate that is layered with blackberry, spice and integrated oak characters. There are long tannins, excellent structure and impressive length.

About the Wolf Blass Winery
The Wolf Blass winery is located at the epicentre of the Australian wine industry, the Barossa Valley and has produced some of Australia's finest wines since 1966
Wolf Blass Wines International was born in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley. John Glaetzer joined the company and from 1974-1976 Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies, the Black Label generated substantial publicity and hype. From this time onwards growth was impressive with Wolf Blass Yellow Label and Riesling becoming Australia's top selling red and white wine. Wolf Blass»
