One of Australia's most distinguished and enduring wines, the Mount Edelstone vineyard was planted in 1912 by Ronald Angas, a descendant of George Fife Angas, founder of South Australia. Unusual for its time, it was planted exclusively to Shiraz. The ancient 500 million years old soils are deep red brown clay and loams, achieving low yields of fruit from the century old, dry grown, ungrafted vines. The anthocyanins in the berries at Mount Edelstone are very high, indicating a remarkably superior quality of Shiraz. Following harvest and completion of ferments, the finished wine is treated to eighteen months in a selection of seasoned and new French and American oak hogsheads prior to assemblage. Alcohol 14.5%
