Fourth generation Henschke patriarch Cyril Henschke made the first single vineyard Hill of Grace edition in 1958, by which time the vines were a century old. A unique delineated single historic site, the vineyard lies opposite a beautiful old Lutheran Church, built of local field stone, which was euphoniously named Gnadenberg, meaning Hill of Grace. Rainfall for the 2004 growing season was a welcome relief after severe drought. The vines grew vigorously and flowered well, and vintage delivered excellent fruit quality. Partial barrel fermentation in a combination of oaks enhances the wine. Maturation under 100% new French (50%) and American (50%) hogsheads for eighteen months prior to assemblage. Alcohol 14.0%
